: : Doesn't Bjork mean something in a Scand. language, whwere JV is lionized? Anybody know? Or care? Dom

: :: Bjork is, I believe, the Icelandinc form of the Old Teut. word "bork" or "berg" -- meaning any fortified town, or a settlement somewhere between a village and a city -- specifically, one which sends representatives to an overall governing body or parliament.

Björk means birch, as in birchtree, in all scandanavian (north germanic)languages. The Swedish form of bork is, I think, "borg", which in modern Swedish means a fortiified castle.
