All true enough, though in my opinion both vance and peake have held their relevance more than Tolkein - or maybe that's just because Tolein's oeuvre has become so overpopulated - all that elves and wizards stuff.
Certainly apart from Vance's work Peake is one of those few authors who really has made me feel that weird suspension of disbelief - particularly his short story 'Boy in Darkness'. The other that springs to mind is turn of the century Gothic writer Arthur Machen - if you haven't read his short story 'The White People' I urge you to do so immediately - it's posted on one of the Machen sites
