I actually remember Vance saying in an interview with a Dutch SF magazine (Holland SF) in the seventies that he wrote Planet of Adventure and several mysteries in a big contract for Ace Books and had to work very hard to get it all done in time.

Good arguments, trend confirmed I would say.
The Face is in fact then the first of the new serie.
The 5th book was good but there can only be one ( the best)
Wyst was indeed so so.
After PoC I still have some books left to devour ( take my face and Bad Ronald) I save them for a holiday. :-)
