: The Grand Master has had fun in hiding names of his contemporaries, colleagues and other personages -- including his own --- in The Demon Princes and other works. Here are two, shall we see how many we can find?
: Ch.3, The Killing Machine:
: A.N. der Poulson: "...the dean of modern cosmologists..."
: Ch.5, The Star King:
: Frerb Hankbert: author of "Journal of the Anthropicene"
: I expect this exercise should be great fun for all and sundry.
I remember one of these in a phony reference in a footnote to a non-existent academic work. It was the scrambled name of a real anthropologist--Perti Pelto. The cited book was also a humorous variation of a real book by the author--something about the impact of snowmobiles on Inuit culture. Sorry but I can't remember either book, Pelto's or Vance's. I suppose other of Vance's fake scholarly references use real people and their works.
