Many of the questions you ask about the chronology of the Gaean Reach have been addressed in the booklet "Vance Space" by Michael Andre-Driussi, published December 1997 (52pp) by Sirius Fiction. This is a well thought-out project by Mr. Andre-Driussi who has clearly put considerable effort into it. It contains many details that I (after many readings of the novels involved) had missed.
